ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ Prevention Education Programs
Prevention education focuses on teaching strategies, skills, and information to prevent harmful behaviors and encourage healthy, positive choices. It aims to raise awareness, shift attitudes, and build skills to reduce risks associated with sexual misconduct, discrimination, and substance misuse. This education equips students with practical skills to promote bystander intervention, affirmative consent, and mental well-being.
ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ (ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ) prevention efforts on campus are ongoing, aimed at providing students, faculty, and staff with information, resources, and skills to foster a healthy campus ecosystem. We believe that the Thriving Together course is a key strategy among many to enhance our campus community and positively impact its health and wellbeing.
Thriving Together is a required course per a mandate from the , this course must be completed by All New Students prior to Registering for their Second Semester at the ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ.
- Completion of Thriving Together is required for all first semester students regardless of status: undergraduate, graduate, non-degree seeking, distance education (online) and transfer.
Thriving Together Content
Thriving Together consists of nine training modules, each with a short video, instructional material, linked resources, scenarios related to the content, and short quizzes or knowledge checks at the end of each module. The final module will be campus-specific information about institutional resources and procedures.

Attention: Students must complete and answer correctly all questions in each knowledge check at the end of each module in order to move forward in the training.
Students will also complete a pre-assessment before completing the training and a post-assessment after completing the training. Pre- and post-assessments measure attitudes and beliefs about training content areas, skills in taking action, and access to resources.

How to Access & Complete Thriving Together
All students will be assigned to Thriving Together by the end of week 4 during Fall and Spring Semesters. Once they are enrolled into Thriving Together, students will see this course when they log into their Canvas Dashboard.
- Students can Login to Canvas, select their Thriving Together course and complete it at their own pace.
- Your progress will be saved, allowing you to return and resume from where you left off.
- The sooner students complete Thriving Together, the sooner the hold can be removed.

How to Complete Thriving Together

- Prior to completing this course, there will be a hold placed on all new student accounts in Cyberbear. After all course modules have been completed, Canvas will send a notice to Cyberbear to clear your hold.

Note Starting Fall 2025: it may take up to 24 hours for the hold to be Cleared.

If completed, over the weekend, the hold will be removed on the following business day.

Who Takes Thriving Together?

- These students are not required to complete Thriving Together.
- These students will receive information from Prevention Education about Clery, Title IX, VAWA, and DFSCA and campus resources.
- If these students would like to take the course, please contact preventioneducation@umontana.edu

- This group of students includes: all first semester students regardless of status: undergraduate, non-degree seeking, and distance education (online) students.
- Thriving Together will be assigned and will show up on your Canvas dashboard. Login into Canvas.
- All new students attending the ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ (an institution of the Montana University System) will have to complete Thriving Together.

- Graduate students who took their undergrad at a Montana University System (MUS) institution that have completed Thriving Together within the last three years are not required to complete it twice.
- Please contact preventioneducation@umontana.edu to verify completion.
- Graduate students who took their undergrad at a Montana University System (MUS) institution that have not completed Thriving Together within the last three years must be assigned Thriving Together.
- Graduate students from a non-MUS institution must be assigned and complete Thriving Together.
- This group of students includes: all first semester students regardless of status: graduate and distance education (online) students.

- Transfer students from another Montana University System (MUS) institution would have completed Thriving Together at the previous institution. Meaning these students are not required to complete the course twice. Please contact preventioneducation@umontana.edu to verify completion.
- These students will receive information from Prevention Education about Clery, Title IX, VAWA, and DFSCA and campus resources.
- Note: The ÀÏ»¢»ú¹¥ÂÔ will accept proof of previous Vector Solutions: AlcoholEdu/SAPAL completion through the Spring term of 2028.
- Students transferring into the MUS from a non-MUS institution must be assigned Thriving Together.
- This group of students includes: all first semester students regardless of status: undergraduate, non-degree seeking, and distance education (online) students.

- This training addresses campus safety topics such as sexual assault prevention, substance use prevention, and mental health issues, including strategies to address these issues in healthy ways. This training does not include explicit descriptions and has been designed with an intentionally trauma-informed approach. Please preventioneducation@umontana.edu if you have any questions or concerns regarding this training.
- Students requesting this option will be offered an opportunity to have a short meeting with the prevention education team to establish a point of contact for the student on campus.
- Additionally, these students will receive information from Prevention Education about Clery, Title IX, VAWA, and DFSCA and campus resources.
