TRIO Exclusive Courses
As part of TRIO's focus on helping students' achieve long-term academic and personal success, our staff and advisors teach a total of four courses that are exclusively offered to TRIO participants.
Students interested in any of the following should reach out to a TRIO advisor to get help enrolling in the course.
COLS 160: Learning Strategies (2 Credits | Fall & Spring)
COLS 160 (previously C&I 160): Learning Strategies for Higher Education has been a staple of TRIO for over 16 years, and an essential component to helping many of our students build the skills to succeed in college. Our instructors consistently update their curriculum to reflect the latest research on memory, learning, reading and more.
Quote from one of our TRIO graduates:
“It's been nearly 10 years since I attended your study skills class. I still use what you taught all the time as a graduate student. You are such a gift to the world. I am glad for people like you.”
COLS 194: First-Year Experience for TRIO Students (2 Credits)
Incoming freshmen enrolled in TRIO have the opportunity to take this course in the Fall. COLS 194 is a unique blend between academic and professional preparation. It is highly recommended for TRIO freshmen who have not declared a major, or who are unsure if the degree/career they are thinking of is right for them.
This course also fulfills the freshmen seminar requirement.
COLS 391: College & Career Success (3 Credits | Fall & Spring)
Taught by the campus experts from Academic Enrichment and Career Success, this course builds career exploration and hands-on experience directly into class assignments. Explore careers that interest you with guidance from professionals!
EDU 392: Peer Mentor Training (1 Credit)
All TRIO Peer Mentors complete this training course before working with mentees. Students who complete the course are then able to apply for a paid Peer Mentor position with TRIO SSS.
