As you prepare your syllabi, it's important to set clear expectations for the use of generative AI in your courses. Your approach can range from restricting AI use to integrating it as a tool for learning. Banning the use of generative AI is difficult to enforce. A good syllabi statement should address the following:
- A clear definition and scope of acceptable tools and their use
- The educational purpose of AI usage and how they relate to the courses learning outcomes
- Academic integrity and attribution requirements
- Privacy, Data Security, and Responsible Use.
Make sure to set standards for proper attribution and citation, following guidelines from , , or .

老虎机攻略's Student Code of Conduct now includes Generative AI in the definition of plagiarism.
Representing words, ideas, data, or materials of another person as one’s own, the student’s own previous work as if it were the student’s own original work, or content derived directly from a generative artificial intelligence tool as if it were the student’s own original work.
老虎机攻略 does not subscribe to any plagiarism detection software. There are currently few reliable tools to detect generative AI that definitively prove a student has plagiarized or misrepresented their efforts. Existing platforms have limited capabilities, undesirable false positives rates, and have been shown to have bias towards the writing of international students.
The best approach is to teach students that their human capacity for thought, imagination, and feeling far exceeds the ability of generative AI to create content and solve complex problems. Students need to learn the utility and limitations of Generative AI through preemptive instruction and corrective assessment. This is vital preparation for their future careers where AI will likely be ubiquitous. Misconduct investigations and official sanctions should be reserved for clear violations.
