Lead Instructor
Marcus Granger- BSRN, CC Paramedic- Lead Instructor, Marcus.Granger@mso.umt.edu, Missoula College: MC 442
I've spent the last 20 years in EMS and I can't think of a better job. Along the way, I spent time as an EMT-Basic, EMT with endorsements, EMT-Paramedic, and finally a Critical Care Paramedic. I've enjoyed many of the roles of an EMT: event standbys, BLS interfacility transport, BLS 911, ALS interfacility, hospital-based EMS, and most recently ALS 911 for a private service. I've also been a nurse for 12 years, and I hold board certifications in Emergency and ICU nursing. I have a wider scope of practice and a few more titles now, but I still use my EMT-Basic skills more than anything else.
I've had the great privilege to be the Lead Instructor of the Missoula College Paramedicine Program. I lead most of the lectures, run skill scenarios and lab stations, and make sure the exams match the coursework. I'm constantly amazed by the quality of our instructor team, lab facilities, and clinical opportunities. Teaching EMTs might be the only job I like better than running a challenging 911 call. I believe strongly in patient-centered care and evidence-based practice. Every patient contact is a chance to learn, and our inevitable mistakes a way to grow. EMS is a young and fast-changing profession. The students we are teaching will mold paramedicine as a discipline for decades to come and I'm honored to be with them on that journey.
In my spare time, I enjoy anything that takes me outside into beautiful western Montana with my wife, two young kids, and our dog.
