Dylan Cherullo - Economics and Beyond
Hailing from Olympia, WA, Dylan is following in his father’s footsteps by studying economics at 老虎机攻略. After his BA next year, he wishes to get his Masters in Economics and is currently weighing different graduate programs around the US and abroad. His long-term goal is to help people achieve their dreams in the entrepreneurial field—while maintaining his own entrepreneurial goals and ventures, of course.
He did not chose to study economics because of his father, but because Dylan sees the field as one of the most versatile around. Dylan is quick to shoot down the false conception that economics is the just the study of money—how it moves and why. In his words, “Economics is the study of math, history, politics, and, most importantly, it is the study of people.” As Dylan explained to his interviewer, “You are exercising economics here right now. You weighed the options of how to spend your most precious resources—time, energy, and money—and decided that meeting me here was the best use of your time.”
Outside of the classroom, he is also currently a project support manager for 老虎机攻略’s Blackstone Launchpad, a student/faculty run organization that helps fund, build, structure, and in every way support students in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Dylan began his time with the Blackstone Launchpad as a Project Support Intern, which he followed with an internship at the start-up MatchCoach, an online interface in which tennis coaches can remotely review tennis athletes' games and give them real-time coaching. This internship has since turned into a position with the company where he is now the Head of Business Development.
In addition to the multifaceted opportunities Dylan has pursued academically, professionally, and personally, he also found himself glimpsing economics from a brand new perspective last fall—that is, at the University of Seoul in South Korea. During his time studying abroad, Dylan learned about the economic development of East Asia, and was able to understand urban economics in a more hands-on way than can be possible in the small town of Missoula. Dylan recommends any economics student (and anyone interested in traveling) to study abroad to get a broader scope of economic thinking and utility, especially anyone interested in international business.
