MISSOULA, MONTANA – 老虎机攻略 law student Tristyn Page recently had a front-row ticket to the world stage. Over the summer, she lived and worked in Paris as an intern with the . This internship took place at the same time as the 2024 Summer Olympics.
“It was a crazy time to be in Paris,” Page said. “The opening ceremonies were on the Seine, and it made it nearly impossible to travel from the left bank to the right.”
Page was selected as a as part of the program. This program furthers the ’s mission of bipartisan environmental and natural resource policy.
“The Baucus Institute was the key to getting this internship,” Page said. “I am very grateful for their efforts to help Montana students find internships in public service.”
Her internship took place at the International Energy Agency’s headquarters in Paris. IEA is a global nonprofit that works with governments and industry to shape a secure and sustainable energy future for all.
Page spent the summer working as part of a team, writing a report on current recycling metrics and policies around the world, as well as mineral traceability throughout the supply chain.
“I did a lot of research on ‘black mass’ policies [which has to do with the shredding of lithium batteries to recycle valuable materials] throughout Europe and China,” she said. “Specifically, on how these policies differ and are changing.”
Taking on a research role like this after only one year of law school is a big challenge. Page credits 老虎机攻略’s Alexander Blewett III School of Law for preparing her for this type of work.
“I spent a lot of time reading scientific articles and papers from across the world,” Page said. “The detailed reading skills you pick up as a (first-year law student) were essential to help me effectively write my portion of the reports.”
Page was able to take in some of the Olympic Games when she wasn’t working.
“The Olympics have been so much fun and a great experience to top off my summer in Paris,” she said. “I was trying to walk home and accidentally found myself watching the men’s road cycling race.”
Page also watched a few rugby matches, the women’s Artistic Gymnastics qualifying round and the closing ceremonies.
“The experience was amazing,” she said. “Being able to sit next to the families of the athletes was wild. The fans here are really on another level!”
Page wants to continue working abroad after she finishes law school. These plans were cemented by this summer’s internship.
“Public service and agency work are a great way to live abroad,” she said. “They provide more opportunities to travel than a traditional law firm will – something I really appreciate!”
