Professional Experience
Prior to and during university, Elisa held a wide variety of jobs varying from childcare, to working in an office, to commercial fishing, to food service. Notably during this time, she interned for an NGO called Inherit Your Rights which provides social and legal support to women in Tanzania. After earning her bachelor’s from Whitworth University, Elisa went on to serve in Peace Corps Indonesia as an English teacher. Through Peace Corps, she earned TEFL certification.
Elisa went on to join the US Forest Service as a Forestry Technician in the Angeles National Forest. In this role, she liaised with the Chilao Visitor Center volunteers and enforced federal and forest regulations as a certified Forest Protection Officer. Most of her time was spent managing recreation sites.
Within the Forest Service, Elisa was promoted to a Program Specialist role on the Africa and Middle East team of International Programs where she supported projects in close collaboration with foreign partners. Her programmatic work was focused in Southern Africa. From there, she was promoted into a role with the Disaster Assistance Support Program (DASP). Through DASP, she collaborated with USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance on the Response Practitioner Development team. There she supported Mission Disaster Relief Officers who are stationed at embassies worldwide.
