Madelyn's Experience in GLI
Her capstone team focused on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving the accessibility of quality local produce, and reconnecting disenfranchised communities to their local food systems as a strategy to combat food inequality and insecurity. Madelyn’s capstone group wanted to address the interdisciplinary nature of this problem by reflecting on the cultural, political, and economic components that affect the production and distribution of sustainable and quality foods. Her team’s research will culminate in a “Sustainable Foods Fair” that will feature community organizations involved in local food production and connect them with students interested or in need of accessible and quality produce!
For her beyond the classroom experience, Madelyn spent an academic year in Lille, France where she facilitated English language and culture classes with the Faculté Des Sciences Juridiques, Politiques Et Sociales (Faculty of Legal, Political, and Social Sciences). During her time with the Faculté Des Sciences Juridiques, Politiques Et Sociales she was able to study international development and contemporary French politics, which concluded with a trip to the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium!
